Why Mavorin

An Approach That Respects How Adults Learn

Reading-led, unhurried, and free of commercial interests. Here is what that means in practice โ€” and how it compares with other options.

What Participants Value About Mavorin

Reading Before Listening

Material is circulated before each session. Participants arrive having already engaged with the document โ€” which means the group discussion starts from a more informed place, not from scratch.

Cohorts You Can Know

Sessions run in groups of eight to fourteen โ€” small enough that questions feel natural and the facilitator can give each participant proper attention during discussion.

Singapore Source Documents

All reading material is drawn from Singapore-specific publicly available documentation. There are no generic international frameworks being mapped loosely onto local conditions.

No Products. Ever.

We carry no commercial arrangements with product providers. No insurance plan, investment product, or scheme is promoted, compared, or recommended in any session โ€” by design and by policy.

Printed Materials to Keep

Participants receive printed reference materials โ€” binders, glossary cards, vocabulary booklets โ€” that they take away and can return to at their own pace. Not slides. Not a PDF.

Experienced Facilitators

Our facilitators have backgrounds in public scheme administration and consumer education โ€” not sales. They are present to deepen understanding, not to generate leads.

Five Things Worth Understanding

The Expertise Behind the Sessions

The facilitators who lead Mavorin sessions spent their earlier careers working within Singapore's public financial frameworks โ€” not observing them from outside. Leonard Wee's two decades at the CPF Board means the Pension Landscape programme is shaped by someone who helped write the documentation participants are reading.

This is a different kind of expertise from that of a financial educator who has studied the schemes academically. It is familiarity earned from the inside, brought to a strictly educational context.

Expertise Markers

  • Facilitators with direct scheme administration experience
  • Materials reviewed against current published scheme documents
  • Reading selections updated when scheme documentation is revised
  • Glossary definitions aligned with official terminology

Structured Approach

  • Each session opens with a specific passage, not a general topic
  • Facilitators prepare discussion anchors in advance
  • Cohort newsletters summarise key terms after each session
  • Programme sequence builds vocabulary across sessions deliberately

A Process Designed for Reading Adults

Adults who are forty or fifty years old have usually read professionally for decades. They are capable of engaging with complex documents โ€” what they often lack is the contextual vocabulary that makes the specific language of pension or insurance documentation legible.

Our process is built around that. Each programme distributes the reading in advance, sequences topics to build on one another, and uses the session time for discussion rather than delivery of new information.

A Considered Service Experience

From the first enquiry to the final session, Mavorin operates at a quiet pace. We do not chase enrolment. When a cohort is full, it is full. Enquiries are answered by the team, not by a sales function โ€” because we do not have one.

The reading room itself is arranged for reading: good chairs, adequate light, no screens unless needed. Printed materials are given, not projected.

Service Standards

  • Enquiries acknowledged within one working day
  • Cohort places confirmed by written enrolment form
  • Reading materials posted or emailed in advance of each session
  • Post-session newsletter circulated within three days

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive Features of the Mavorin Method

A Syllabus of Public Documents

Every reading selection is drawn from documents that participants could access independently โ€” CPF Board publications, MAS consumer guidance, official scheme summaries. Mavorin's role is to provide the structure, pacing, and discussion that makes reading these documents productive rather than frustrating.

Time Between Sessions

Unlike intensive weekend seminars, Mavorin's programmes are spaced โ€” weekly or monthly depending on the format. That interval is intentional. It allows participants to re-read material, form their own questions, and arrive at the next session with reflections rather than simply reactions.

Discussion, Not Delivery

Sessions are structured around questions rather than presentations. The facilitator opens a passage, identifies the vocabulary worth examining, and invites the group to work through its implications. No slides. No one-way information transfer.

Built for the 40+ Reader

The pace, vocabulary level, and topic selection of our programmes are shaped specifically for adults who are approaching or in the later stages of their working lives. We do not ask participants to start from the beginning of financial literacy โ€” we meet them where they already are.
